Welcome to my blog / homepage.
My name is Jacob Habgood (Jake) and this site is a collection of information about the things I get up to inside and outside of my day job as a Reader in Game Development at Sheffield Hallam University. You’ll find that some of the posts are duplicated on the departmental blog but I wanted a space to call my own too.
My professional game development career began at Gremlin Graphics in the mid-nineties working on PlayStation 1 titles like the Loaded series, Actua Sports, Hogs of War and MicroMachines.
I left the industry to take up a Ph.D. scholarship at Nottingham University in 2003 and spent 3 years researching in the field of game-based learning before returning to the Industry as the Head of Serious Games at Sumo Digital.
I left Sumo in 2010 to take up the post of Senior Lecturer in Game Development at Sheffield Hallam University, which combined my passions for the study of learning and game development.
If you want to contact me about something relating to my day job then it’s useful to know that email addresses at Hallam follow the general format of: Initial.Surname@shu.ac.uk.
